The computing team is one of the most important within the station, though it might not appear it from the outside. Bailrigg FM operates all it's own computing services and without them we'd lose the ability to keep track of the membership, the management committee, send out emails, publicise ourselves via the websites, let people listen from off campus, carryout many outside broadcasts including live commentary from Lancaster City, and even open the doors!
The management committee has two elected positions for the computing team; the Systems Administrator, which is currently vacant, and the Webmaster position currently held by me, Jay. We're looking for people who are maybe slightly geeky deep down, know their way around a computer and don't mind getting their hands dirty when it comes to making things work quickly. It's nice if people already have an understanding of some of the technologies we use, most are pretty standard and open source and its a great opportunity to get some experience operating time critical computing systems if you're interested in a career in IT.
It's a friendly environment, it's not unknown for us to be playing networked Open Transport Tycoon in the office, messing about with computing projects or even playing World of Warcraft - though we do get some gentle mocking for this from mostly everyone else ;-) Oh and we have our own coffee machine right next to the TV. What more could you ask for!
