The Sports Team

Hodge and Kenny commentating on a Lancaster City away game

Bailrigg FM's Sports Team is the perfect place for student radio beginners to gain ‘on air’ experience and for passionate Sports Fans looking for a hobby. Unlike any other student run organisation, we broadcast live 90 minute commentary of every Lancaster City Football Club’s Home matches, allowing us to compete with local commercial radio stations. This includes pre-and post-match analysis, in addition to interviewing the Club Manager and the football players, all great skills which will boost any CV.

If Football is not of interest to you, we pride our Tuesday Night and Saturday Sports Shows which closely cover international, national and campus Sports news. This allows us to take a cheeky look at all sports from Tennis and Formula 1 to the more unusual events of Canoeing and Octopush! We are eager for suggestions for our special shows which have included a Football Transfer Countdown show and a Wimbledon themed party on air, so get involved with your ideas.

Also, this year you will have the opportunity to be part of our student radio award winning coverage of Roses 2010, the sporting tournament between Lancaster and York University. As we are at home this spring, we are particularly searching for Campus Sports Reporters to collect scores and commentate on all the action from the sports fields.

Plus, the Sports Team are one of the most socially active at Bailrigg FM with social events from watching Premier League matches in campus bars to karaoke nights, with future events including the Bailrigg FM Winter Olympics and celebrating the 2010 World Cup. This is a fantastic way to meet friends without the pressure of going live on air.

The current Head of Sport is Steve Feekins and you can contact him directly using the form below if you have any specific questions, or are intrested in joining the sports team.
